Global Participation Marked on International Day of Yoga with Focus on Healthy Aging

The International Day of Yoga 2026 was marked by enthusiastic participation across the globe, with Indian missions spearheading various events focused on the theme of “Healthy Ageing.” Celebrated annually on June 21, this day aims to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga in promoting overall health and well-being, particularly as individuals age.

In numerous countries, embassies and consulates of India organized yoga sessions, workshops, and seminars, inviting local communities to engage in yoga practices that foster physical, mental, and spiritual health. Events were designed not only to teach yoga techniques but also to emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle, especially for older adults.

The theme of healthy ageing aligns with global health initiatives that seek to enhance the quality of life and longevity for older populations. It underscores the role of yoga in improving flexibility, balance, and strength, as well as its mental health benefits, such as stress relief and enhanced cognitive function.

The United Nations General Assembly established the International Day of Yoga in 2014, recognizing the growing popularity of yoga and its relevance in a fast-paced world. The observance encourages individuals of all ages to incorporate yoga into their daily routines, fostering a holistic approach to health that supports ageing with dignity and vitality.
