Governments Strategy to Reduce Forex Spending through Ethanol-Blended Petrol

Ethanol-blended petrol, commonly referred to as E20, is produced by combining petrol with ethanol, a renewable biofuel sourced from various agricultural feedstocks, including sugarcane and corn. This blend aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels.

The Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme, initiated to promote sustainable fuel options, set the original target for E20 petrol sales in numerous markets to enhance energy security and environmental sustainability. The E20 blend consists of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol.

Countries around the world are increasingly adopting such fuel blends as part of their commitments to meet climate goals and transition towards cleaner energy alternatives. The program not only aims to improve air quality but also to support local agriculture by creating a market for biofuel crops. As of 2023, significant infrastructure and policy developments have been established in various regions to facilitate the broader adoption of ethanol-blended fuels.
