Government Urges Measures to Protect Shelter Residents from Heat Conditions

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has issued a directive to local authorities emphasizing the necessity for adequate cooling measures in shelters. The communication outlines that all shelters must be equipped with functional fans, water dispensers, and other cooling facilities to ensure the comfort and safety of residents during extreme heat conditions.

In addition to enhancing physical infrastructure, the directive highlights the importance of training shelter staff. Personnel will be educated on recognizing symptoms associated with heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and will be instructed on how to respond effectively to such medical emergencies.

This initiative comes amid rising temperatures and increasing frequency of heatwaves, which pose significant health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations residing in temporary shelters. The Ministrys focus on preparedness aims to mitigate these risks and safeguard the well-being of those in need of assistance.
