Health Minister Announces Plans to Enhance Support for Rare Disease Patients in A.P.
The state government has announced the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Vijayawada, which will focus on the treatment and management of rare diseases. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to implement the National Policy for Rare Diseases, aimed at improving healthcare access and outcomes for patients with these conditions.
In addition to the Centre of Excellence, the state plans to set up referral centres in three distinct regions. These centres are intended to enhance the network of care for individuals suffering from rare diseases, providing specialized services that cater to unique medical needs.
Furthermore, the government is introducing a universal neonatal screening program, which will screen newborns for various rare genetic disorders. Early detection through these screenings can significantly improve management outcomes and provide timely intervention, offering families better support and treatment options for affected children.
The National Policy for Rare Diseases, launched by the Indian government, aims to provide comprehensive support for individuals with rare conditions, including financial assistance, patient registries, and research funding, to foster advancements in treatment and care.
