Horticulture Department to Introduce 617 New Species, Including Endangered Varieties, in Cubbon and Lalbagh Gardens
The Karnataka Forest Department has announced the introduction of 617 saplings in Cubbon Park and Lalbagh Botanical Garden, sourced from various institutions. This initiative emphasizes the preservation of biodiversity, particularly targeting endangered species native to the Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Hills (BR Hills) region. The BR Hills are known for their rich flora and fauna and are home to the Soliga tribe, who play a crucial role in the conservation of these species. The department aims to raise awareness and promote the importance of protecting these endangered plants while enhancing the ecological health of urban green spaces in Bengaluru. Additional efforts may include educational programs and community involvement to foster a greater understanding of biodiversity conservation.
