IIT Madras Recognizes 1,842 NPTEL Stars from South India for Excellence in Lifelong Learning

IIT Madras recently honored 1,842 NPTEL Stars from South India during a campus event celebrating excellence in online learning. This recognition is part of the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), which aims to enhance the quality of education in India through online courses.

The January-April 2026 semester saw impressive figures, with a total enrollment of approximately 3.68 million students across various NPTEL courses. Of these, 10,763 individuals were awarded the NPTEL Star honor, with 8,011 being first-time recipients.

During the event, the institute also emphasized initiatives such as the NPTEL Pre-Doctoral Fellowship, which is designed to support students pursuing advanced research, and the NPTEL-GATE portal, which provides resources and guidance for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).

Participants, including learners and faculty members, shared their experiences on how the NPTEL platform has facilitated higher education, research opportunities, and continuous professional development, underscoring the significance of online learning in today’s educational landscape.
