Impact of West Asia Crisis on Indian Tea Exports
The Indian Tea Association has reported that nearly 46% of Indias tea exports are directed towards a select group of countries, including Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt. This concentration indicates a significant reliance on these markets for Indian tea exporters.
India is one of the worlds largest tea producers, and these countries have emerged as critical partners in the tea trade, driven by growing consumption and demand for quality tea. The Indian tea industry contributes significantly to the countrys economy, supporting millions of livelihoods, particularly in states like Assam and West Bengal, which are known for their tea plantations.
In recent years, the Indian government has also explored opportunities to diversify its tea export markets and expand its reach to other regions, including Europe and North America, while strengthening its existing trade relationships with key Middle Eastern and North African countries. With ongoing challenges such as climate change and fluctuating global demand, the Indian tea sector remains focused on sustainable practices and quality improvement to enhance its competitiveness in the global market.
