Income Tax Raids Conducted in Poll-Bound West Bengal and Tamil Nadu Ahead of Assembly Elections 2026

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has commenced the commissioning process for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) in preparation for the first phase of elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

This process is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and transparency of the electoral process, as EVMs allow for efficient vote casting while VVPATs enable voters to verify their selections on a paper trail. The commissioning phase involves rigorous testing and calibration of the machines to ensure they meet the required standards for the elections.

The first phase of polling is an important step in the electoral process, and both states have significant voter populations that will participate. Tamil Nadu and West Bengal will hold elections to select members for their respective state legislative assemblies, which play a key role in local governance and policy-making.

In total, the ECI has announced that they will deploy thousands of EVMs and VVPAT units across various polling stations in both states. The election body has also indicated that they are enhancing security measures and protocols to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

The commission has encouraged voters to familiarize themselves with the voting process and has planned outreach programs to educate the public on the use of EVMs and VVPATs ahead of the elections, which are set to take place in the coming weeks.
