India initiates campaign for 2028-29 UNSC term with SHANTI vision unveiled by Jaishankar.

India has officially launched its campaign to secure a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the term 2028-29. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar unveiled the initiative, which is encapsulated in a vision called SHANTI, emphasized on sustainable, Holistic, accessible, Normative, Transparent, and Inclusive global governance.

During the launch, Jaishankar articulated Indias commitment to advancing key areas including maritime security, seafarer safety, and efforts to combat the financing of terrorism. These priorities reflect Indias strategic interests and global security objectives while enhancing its role in multilateral institutions.

In addition to promoting its candidacy, Jaishankar also met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss pressing international issues such as the crises in the Middle East and Ukraine. This meeting underscores Indias active participation in addressing global challenges and its desire to play a larger role in shaping international policy.
