Indians Additional Expenditure on Gold in the June Quarter of 2026

### Indias Gold Demand Declines Amid Price Volatility and Higher Duties

Recent reports indicate that Indias gold demand decreased by 6% during the April to June quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in the previous year. This decline, attributed to weak seasonal demand and an increase in gold import duties, reflects ongoing challenges for the gold market in India.

According to the World Gold Council (WGC), total gold demand in India during this quarter was 99.6 tonnes, down from 106 tonnes in the corresponding quarter last year. The rise in gold prices, which has been influenced by global market fluctuations, has further contributed to reduced consumer interest.

In the international gold market, global demand remained relatively stable, with a total of 1,269 tonnes of gold consumed worldwide in the same quarter. This figure shows no significant change from previous quarters, reflecting a balance between consumer markets.

Factors influencing gold demand in India include festival seasons and wedding traditions, which typically drive sales. However, the current economic factors combined with a lack of substantial purchasing power may be causing consumers to reconsider their investments in gold.

With inflation concerns and shifting consumer behavior, both the domestic and global gold markets are likely to face continued scrutiny. Stakeholders are watching closely to see how these trends evolve in the coming months, particularly with potential policy changes and market adjustments that could affect gold prices and demand patterns.

This decline in demand highlights a significant shift in consumer sentiment, underlining the impact of economic factors on traditional buying patterns.
