IndiGo Announces Memorandum of Understanding for Major Order of Over 1,000 CFM LEAP Engines for Airbus Fleet.

IndiGo Secures Record Order for Jet Engines from CFM International

IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, has finalized a monumental Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CFM International for the procurement of over 1,000 LEAP engines. This marks one of the largest single orders for jet engines in aviation history, specifically tailored for IndiGos Airbus fleet, predominantly comprising A320neo aircraft.

The order is expected to bolster IndiGos operational capabilities and enhance fuel efficiency, as the LEAP engines are recognized for their advanced technology and lower emissions. CFM International is a joint venture between General Electric and Safran Aircraft Engines, and their LEAP engines have become increasingly popular among airlines worldwide due to their performance and reliability.

In addition to the engine order, IndiGo has also indicated plans to establish a dedicated repair shop for these engines, further enhancing support for its expanding fleet and optimizing maintenance routes, which could lead to cost savings in the long term.

This strategic move comes amid a robust recovery in air travel demand, following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
