Karnataka Mango Farmers Express Discontent Over Central Assistance

In response to the financial challenges faced by farmers cultivating Totapuri mangoes this year, the State government has proposed a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹17.50 per kilogram. This recommended price reflects an increase of ₹4.37 per kilogram over the cost of cultivation specifically for this mango variety. The proposal has been submitted to the Union government for consideration, aiming to provide better economic stability for local mango growers.

The Totapuri mango is primarily grown in tropical regions of India and is known for its distinctive flavor and versatility in culinary uses. Given the significance of this variety to the agricultural economy in states like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the proposed MSP is intended to support farmers amidst fluctuating market conditions and increase their income stability. The government’s initiative highlights its commitment to the agricultural sector and its efforts to enhance the livelihoods of farmers.
