Karnataka Apiculture Farmers Face Challenges Due to Limited Budgetary Allocation
Budget Constraints Limit Beekeeping Support for Farmers
Due to a significant reduction in budget allocation, the department responsible for the State Apiculture Development Scheme has been compelled to reduce the number of beekeeping boxes provided to farmers. Instead of the minimum of 10 boxes per farmer, only two to three boxes are being distributed.
This change could impact the potential growth of the apiculture sector in the region, as beekeeping plays a vital role in promoting agriculture through pollination and enhancing honey production. The State Apiculture Development Scheme aims to support farmers by improving their livelihoods and boosting local economies through enhanced beekeeping practices.
Experts suggest that adequate resources and support are essential for the effective implementation of such schemes, and stakeholders are encouraged to advocate for increased funding. Beekeeping not only contributes to agricultural diversity but also supports environmental sustainability by promoting biodiversity.
