Karnatakas Groundwater Extraction Decreases from 68.44% in 2024 to 66.49% in 2025

On Wednesday, Karnataka Minister Boseraju presented the 2025 Groundwater Assessment Report, highlighting significant improvements in groundwater levels within the state. The report attributes these positive developments to a combination of factors, including favorable rainfall, effective policy measures, and extensive water conservation initiatives that have been enacted over the past two years.

The assessment indicates that the states commitment to sustainable water management practices is yielding tangible benefits. This includes efforts such as rainwater harvesting projects, the promotion of efficient irrigation techniques among farmers, and various awareness campaigns aimed at promoting water conservation among residents.

The report comes at a crucial time as Karnataka, like many regions in India, faces challenges related to water scarcity and groundwater depletion. The government aims to build on these recent gains to further enhance the states water security in the face of climate variability and population growth.
