KDA Report Recommends Mandatory Kannada Education for All Curricula and Boards

The Karnataka Education Department has recommended that the Kannada language be made a compulsory subject in all schools across the state, regardless of the board to which they are affiliated. This recommendation aligns with the provisions of the Kannada Language Learning Act, 2015, which aims to promote and strengthen the use of Kannada in educational institutions.

The Act emphasizes the importance of regional languages in fostering a sense of identity and cultural heritage among students. Proponents of this recommendation argue that making Kannada a compulsory subject would enhance students proficiency in the language and ensure its continued relevance in an increasingly globalized world.

As of now, the implementation details of this recommendation, including timelines and specific curriculum adjustments, are yet to be finalized. The Department is expected to engage with various stakeholders, including educators and community leaders, to facilitate a smooth integration of Kannada language instruction in the states educational framework.
