Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Saxena Approves Establishment of Five New Districts

The Union Territory of Ladakh has expanded its administrative framework with the establishment of five new districts: Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass. This development increases the total number of districts in Ladakh from two to seven.

The decision to create these new districts aims to enhance governance and improve access to local resources and services for residents. Each of the newly formed districts has distinct geographical features and cultural significance. For instance, Nubra is known for its unique high-altitude desert landscape, while Zanskar is famous for its scenic beauty and Buddhist culture.

The formation of these districts is expected to facilitate more effective administration, foster economic development, and provide better infrastructure and public services to the local populace. This administrative restructuring aligns with the central governments ongoing efforts to promote development in the Union Territory following its reorganization in 2019.
