Maharashtra on High Alert as CM Fadnavis Forecasts Continued Heavy Rainfall Until July 8
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the regions of Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad due to the possibility of heavy rainfall and strong winds expected to disrupt local travel and daily activities.
The alert indicates that these areas may face severe weather conditions, characterized by intense rainfall that could exceed 200 mm in a 24-hour period, and gusty winds reaching up to 60 km/h. Such conditions can lead to waterlogging, traffic delays, and may also pose risks of landslides in vulnerable areas.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during this time. Local emergency services are on high alert to respond to any weather-related incidents. Additionally, coastal areas might face increased risks from rough seas, with advisories urging fishermen to refrain from venturing into the water.
This weather pattern comes as part of the ongoing monsoon season, which typically affects the region from June to September, but there have been instances of prolonged and intense rainfall affecting Mumbai and neighboring districts in recent years. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary.
