MoU Signed to Supply PNG Across 22 Railway Establishments in Delhi NCR
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Northern Railway to provide piped natural gas (PNG) across 22 railway establishments located in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). This collaboration aims to enhance the environmental sustainability and energy efficiency of railway operations by replacing traditional fuels with cleaner natural gas.
Under the agreement, IGL will be responsible for the supply of PNG, which is a key component of India’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and moving towards cleaner energy sources. The initiative is expected to facilitate better energy usage in railway establishments, resulting in significant cost savings and improved operational efficiency.
The CEO of IGL expressed optimism about the partnership, stating that the shift to piped natural gas will not only benefit the railways but also contribute significantly to the region’s air quality improvement. He highlighted the importance of working with various sectors to promote the use of cleaner fuels.
Northern Railway officials welcomed the MoU, noting that the adoption of PNG aligns with the railways initiative to embrace more sustainable practices. This collaboration is seen as a step forward in achieving the goals set in Indias National Energy Policy, which encourages the use of renewable and alternative energy sources.
This partnership demonstrates a growing trend in India towards integrating cleaner energy solutions into various sectors and is expected to pave the way for similar agreements in the future, promoting environmental sustainability across the country.
