Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve Core Area Closed Until September 30 for Tiger Breeding Season.

The core area of the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve is closed to tourists and pilgrims until September 30. This decision is part of ongoing conservation efforts in the region. Notably, the tiger population within the reserve has seen a significant increase, rising from 47 in 2018 to 76 in 2024.

The Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, located in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, plays a critical role in the conservation of biodiversity, especially big cats. The reserve spans over 3,500 square kilometers and is home to various species of flora and fauna, making it one of the largest tiger reserves in India. The increase in the tiger population is attributed to successful conservation strategies, habitat management, and anti-poaching measures implemented by wildlife authorities.

Visitors are encouraged to respect the temporary closure as efforts continue to protect the natural environment and ensure the wellbeing of its wildlife.
