Naidu Instructs Officials to Create Economic Model for Seaweed Cultivation Along Andhra Pradesh Coast

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has emphasized the promotion of seaweed cultivation as a viable livelihood option for women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and fishermen along the states coastline. In a recent directive to state officials, Naidu highlighted the potential of seaweed not only as a sustainable source of income but also as a valuable resource for the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries.

To further this initiative, the Chief Minister has requested collaboration with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, a prominent academic institution known for its research and innovation in various fields, including marine biology and sustainable agriculture. He has asked officials to prepare a comprehensive report detailing the prospects of seaweed farming, including market analysis, cultivation techniques, and potential environmental benefits.

Seaweed is recognized for its diverse applications, ranging from food products to health supplements, and has gained attention globally for its role in promoting health and wellness. The initiative aims to empower local communities while exploring the growing demand for seaweed-derived products in both domestic and international markets, thereby fostering economic development along the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh.
