Over 4 Million Households Now Supported by Rooftop Solar Systems Through Surya Ghar Yojana
Over 4 million households in India have installed rooftop solar systems under the Prime Ministers Surya Ghar Yojana, marking a significant advancement in the country’s clean energy initiative. Launched in February 2024, the program has rapidly gained traction, with the state of Gujarat emerging as a frontrunner in the number of installations.
The Surya Ghar Yojana aims to empower individuals by enabling them to generate their own electricity, thereby reducing household electricity bills and providing the potential for income generation through excess energy production. By encouraging the use of solar energy, the initiative aligns with Indias broader commitment to increasing renewable energy capacity and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The government has set ambitious targets to enhance solar energy adoption as part of its National Solar Mission, which aims to achieve 100 GW of solar capacity by 2022. This campaign not only supports cleaner energy sources but also contributes to job creation within the green energy sector. As the program continues to expand, it reflects Indias commitment to sustainability and addresses the growing demand for energy in the context of climate change.
