Peter Straus Acquires 64-Acre Ranch in 1977, Later Designated as National Park Site

In 1977, actor Peter Strauss acquired a 64-acre ranch in California that had deteriorated over the years. Committed to revitalizing the property, he invested substantial resources into its restoration efforts. Strauss resided at the ranch until 1983, during which time he focused on bringing the land back to its natural condition. His dedication to environmental conservation and landscape restoration led to the ranch being designated as Peter Strauss Ranch Park. This area is now integrated within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, which offers visitors opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the scenic beauty of the mountains. The national recreation area, established in 1978, spans over 150,000 acres and is known for its diverse ecosystems and cultural history, attracting numerous visitors each year.
