PM and UAE President Discuss Importance of Safe Passage in Strait of Hormuz

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, recently held a telephone conversation with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During the discussion, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the critical importance of ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor that facilitates the transit of a significant amount of the worlds oil supply.
The Strait of Hormuz is strategically located at the entrance of the Persian Gulf and is considered one of the most important chokepoints in global energy transit. Recent geopolitical tensions in the region have raised concerns about the security of shipping routes, which transport about 20% of the global crude oil supply.
This communication reflects the ongoing collaboration between India and the UAE in addressing regional security challenges and enhancing economic ties. Both leaders underscored the necessity of maintaining stability in the region and the importance of international cooperation in safeguarding maritime navigation.
The conversation is part of a broader context of Indias foreign policy, which aims to secure energy routes and strengthen partnerships with key Gulf nations, given that the UAE is one of Indias major trading partners and a significant source of energy imports.
