Sarnath Recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site: A Milestone for India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed pride following the recent inscription of the ancient Buddhist site of Sarnath onto the UNESCO World Heritage List. This designation elevates Sarnath as the 45th site from India to receive this esteemed recognition, marking a significant cultural achievement for the country.

Sarnath, located near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, holds tremendous importance in Buddhism as the place where Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. The inscription highlights Sarnaths extensive historical and archaeological significance, showcasing its ancient temples, stupas, and relics which attract scholars, pilgrims, and tourists from around the world.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee made the announcement during its recent session, emphasizing the site’s exceptional universal value to the heritage of humanity. Located at the confluence of significant cultural and spiritual histories, this recognition further cements Indias rich historical narratives.

In tandem with this celebration, PM Modi took to social media shortly after the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to underscore the importance of this moment for every Indian. He remarked that it is a proud moment reflecting Indias architectural and cultural heritage.
