Government Proposes New Anti-Paper Leak Bill Following Debate in Lok Sabha

The Indian government is advancing a new piece of legislation aimed at addressing issues related to paper leaks in public examinations. The proposed Anti-Paper Leak Bill of 2026 includes several significant measures, among them are substantial penalties, including up to ten years in prison and fines amounting to ₹50 lakh (approximately $60,000).

The Lok Sabha recently witnessed heated discussions over the bill, with both government officials and opposition parties sharing their perspectives. The ongoing debate highlighted both the importance of safeguarding public examination integrity and the potential shortcomings of the bill in addressing root causes of examination-related fraud.
