Rahul Gandhi Criticizes New NTA Order for Additional NET Subjects

UGC-NET Exams to be Reconducted Due to Errors

The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) is facing scrutiny after the decision to reconduct examinations for three subjects due to significant errors in the original testing process. The issues have prompted a wave of criticism from several political figures, particularly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who called for accountability from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the central government. Gandhi specifically pointed to the recent mishaps as indicative of broader systemic failures within the NTA.

The recent complications surrounding the UGC-NET exams follow a similar situation with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in which a paper was also canceled due to identified discrepancies. Such repeated errors have raised concerns about the efficacy and reliability of the NTA in conducting these crucial examinations.

In response to these issues, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) has called for the scrapping of the NTA and the National Education Policy (NEP), urging a comprehensive review of the examination and educational system in India to prevent further inconsistencies.

As part of the ongoing process to address these errors, the UGC has specified that the newly scheduled examinations will take place shortly, with details being made available to affected candidates. Additionally, an objection window for the released answer key for the June 2026 CSIR UGC NET has been opened until August 18, allowing candidates to raise concerns about discrepancies in the assessments.

The NTA has reiterated its commitment to maintaining examination integrity and is expected to conduct a thorough evaluation of the processes leading to the recent errors. The outcome of these actions will be closely monitored, highlighting the importance of transparent and fair examination practices in Indias educational landscape.
