Satheesan Highlights Call for Private Involvement in Critical Minerals Sector During LDF Administration

During a recent session of the legislative assembly, the Chief Minister of Kerala informed members that the state-owned Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd (KMML) based in Kollam has opted to award a work order to a Hyderabad-based company for the process of monazite cracking. This decision was made earlier in the year while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) was still in power.

Monazite is a mineral that contains rare earth elements and thorium, and its processing, known as cracking, is essential for extracting valuable materials used in various high-tech applications. The awarding of the contract is part of KMMLs effort to enhance its operational capabilities and maximize the potential of mineral exploitation in the region, contributing to both the local economy and the state’s broader industrial goals.

This announcement is significant as it highlights the governments commitment to fostering partnerships with private firms to develop the states mineral resources, which could lead to increased job opportunities and economic growth in the area.
