SBI Reports 10.2% Year-on-Year Increase in Q1 Net Profit to ₹21,121 Crore, NII Up 15%

State Bank of India Reports Strong Financial Performance in Q1 FY27

The State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, has reported a 10.2% year-over-year increase in net profit for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, reaching ₹21,121 crore. This growth can be attributed to a 15% rise in net interest income (NII), indicating effective asset management and an increasing volume of lending.

Analysts had anticipated only modest growth, but SBI surpassed these expectations, driven by robust loan growth and improved operational efficiencies. The bank reported that its net profit rose approximately 14% to ₹24,113 crore due to enhanced core income and a decrease in provisioning for bad loans, which reflects better asset quality. The banks non-performing asset (NPA) ratio has dropped to its lowest level in over two decades, showcasing improved credit management with a notable reduction in slippages on a year-over-year basis.

Additionally, SBI is expected to attract around USD 10 billion in Foreign Currency Non-Resident (FCNR) deposits by the end of September, which could further bolster its capital base and enhance its lending capacity. This move indicates the banks strategy to strengthen its foreign currency funding in a competitive lending environment.

Overall, SBIs quarterly results reflect a resilient financial position amid market fluctuations, and the bank remains optimistic about sustaining its growth trajectory in the coming quarters.
