Seminar Explores the Impact of the Western Ghats on Agriculture and the Economy

Srinivasulu, the Principal Secretary of the Department of Forest, Environment, and Ecology, emphasized the ecological and scientific importance of the Western Ghats during a recent statement. He noted that, despite the regions critical role in biodiversity conservation and climate regulation, local communities residing in the vicinity of the Western Ghats have yet to fully recognize its value for future generations.

The Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is known for its rich flora and fauna, as well as its diverse ecosystems that are vital to the environment and climate stability. This mountain range, stretching approximately 1,600 kilometers along the western coast of India, is home to various endemic species and serves as a crucial watershed for several major rivers. Efforts are ongoing to raise awareness among local populations about the significance of preserving this natural heritage, as the sustainability of the regions resources is essential not only for the communities living there but also for the broader ecological balance and human well-being.
