Significant Increase in Women Ridership on KSRTCs Priyadarshini Scheme Launch Day

On June 15, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) recorded a significant milestone with 1.329 million women passengers availing of its services. Of these, approximately 783,000 women received zero-fare tickets as part of a new initiative aimed at enhancing accessibility for female commuters. The introduction of this fare-free scheme resulted in a revenue loss of ₹2.2 crore for the KSRTC on its inaugural day.

The initiative is part of the Kerala governments broader efforts to promote gender equality and empower women by facilitating easier access to public transportation. The zero-fare policy applies to women traveling on KSRTC buses, aiming to encourage more female participation in the workforce and educational institutions. The government plans to monitor the schemes impact over the coming months, assessing both its economic implications for the KSRTC and its effectiveness in increasing female ridership.
