Sitharaman Advocates for External Aid Projects to Enhance Global Market Access for Northeast Products

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman underscored the importance of externally aided projects (EAPs) in the Northeast region of India, emphasizing their role in enhancing local products for access to global markets and improving livelihoods for the local population. During her remarks, she noted a significant seven-fold increase in financial assistance for development initiatives in the region since 2014.

Minister Sitharaman highlighted the construction of over 10,000 kilometers of roads in the Northeast, which has been a crucial element in improving connectivity and facilitating economic growth. She expressed confidence in the regions potential for development, stating that EAPs provide a model that merges central government support, state-level project execution, and international expertise to benefit local communities.

The region, known for its rich cultural heritage and diverse resources, is seen as having significant untapped potential for economic development. The focus on empowering local industries aligns with the governments broader initiative to integrate the Northeast into national and global supply chains, promoting sustainable growth and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
