T.N. Assembly Election Results Highlight Limited SC/ST Representation Beyond Reserved Seats

The AIADMK coalition is the only major political front not to field candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities in the recent general constituency elections. In contrast, the other three political fronts made a concerted effort to include SC/ST candidates in their line-ups.

Among the election results, P. Viswanathan from the Congress party emerged as the sole Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) elected from this group, securing victory in the Melur constituency. His win is significant in highlighting the representation of minority communities in the legislative assembly.

The focus on SC/ST representation reflects broader trends in Indias political landscape, where various parties seek to address historical underrepresentation and actively engage with minority communities as part of their electoral strategy. Election outcomes also indicate the challenges and successes faced by different political coalitions as they navigate constituency dynamics and voter preferences.
