Tamil Nadu Conducts Special eKYC Camps for Ration Card Biometric Verification

In a recent initiative to streamline the distribution of ration cards, the Tamil Nadu government has organized special electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) camps at various ration shops across the state. This program aims to ensure that beneficiaries can verify their identity and eligibility for food assistance using biometric data.

The eKYC process requires beneficiaries to authenticate their identity through digital means, primarily utilizing fingerprint and iris scanning technology. This move not only enhances the accuracy of the benefit distribution system but also aims to eliminate issues related to duplicate ration cards and fraud.

The camps will be held at designated ration shops, making the process accessible to a large number of applicants. Beneficiaries are encouraged to bring necessary identification documents, such as their Aadhaar cards, to facilitate smooth verification.

This initiative is part of Tamil Nadus ongoing efforts to improve public service delivery and ensure that food security measures are effectively implemented. The state has a robust public distribution system (PDS) that provides essential commodities to millions of low-income families, and the introduction of biometric verification is expected to enhance its efficiency.
