Union Power Minister urges West Bengal government to address outstanding dues and transition to prepaid metering system.

In an effort to ease the financial strain on power distribution companies (discoms), Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has called for the establishment of a comprehensive system for the timely settlement of outstanding dues. He emphasized the importance of a robust mechanism that would ensure regular payments to support the financial health of these companies. Additionally, Khattar advocated for the swift deployment of smart metering technology, which is expected to enhance efficiency in billing and monitoring energy consumption.

The implementation of smart meters is part of a broader initiative to modernize the electrical grid, reduce losses, and improve customer service. This move aligns with the governments goals of promoting sustainable energy practices and ensuring a reliable power supply. Efficient dues settlement and the adoption of smart technology are seen as critical steps in revitalizing the financial landscape of the discoms, which have faced increasing challenges in recent years due to rising operational costs and unpaid bills.
