Veerashaiva-Lingayat Leaders Request Proportional Representation in Rajya Sabha
The terms of four members of the Rajya Sabha, Indias upper house of Parliament, are set to conclude on June 25, 2024. The members whose terms will end are Mallikarjun Kharge, a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and currently serving as the party president; H.D. Deve Gowda, a former Prime Minister and leader of the Janata Dal (Secular); K. Narayana, representing the Communist Party of India (Marxist); and Eranna Kadadi from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Upon the expiration of their terms, elections will likely be held to fill these vacant seats, reflecting the ongoing political dynamics and potential shifts in representation within the Rajya Sabha. This renewal is part of the regular electoral cycle for the Rajya Sabha, where one-third of its members retire every two years, offering an opportunity for political parties to refresh their representation and address the changing political landscape.
