Cabinet Approves ₹25,530 Crore Initiative to Enhance Ration Distribution System Through 2031
The Indian government has sanctioned a substantial allocation of ₹25,530 crore for the SARTHAK-PDS initiative, designed to modernize the Public Distribution System (PDS) over the next eight years, with a completion target set for March 2031. This comprehensive scheme seeks to enhance the efficiency of ration delivery, minimize leakages in the system, and elevate the quality of services provided to approximately 81.35 crore beneficiaries across the nation.
Key components of the SARTHAK-PDS initiative include the integration of advanced transport logistics, dealer support mechanisms, and significant technological advancements. The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) will play a crucial role in optimizing operational processes, ensuring timely distribution, and ultimately improving the overall user experience.
This modernization effort aligns with the governments objective to strengthen food security and promote transparency within the PDS, which has been a vital mechanism for ensuring subsidized food grains reach underserved populations. By leveraging technology and streamlining processes, the SARTHAK-PDS aims to build a more resilient and responsive food distribution network in India.
