Karnataka Government Introduces Indias First Digital Grievance Redressal System for Gig Workers

A new mechanism has been introduced in India, marking a significant milestone for gig workers. Developed by the Karnataka Platform-based Gig Workers’ Board in collaboration with the Department of e-Governance, this initiative aims to support and regulate the platform-based gig economy in the state of Karnataka.

This mechanism seeks to address various challenges faced by gig workers, such as lack of job security, access to benefits, and transparent grievance redressal. By creating a structured framework, the initiative aims to enhance worker rights and ensure fair practices within the gig sector.

Karnataka, known as a hub for technology and innovation, is set to be a pioneer in implementing such a system, potentially serving as a model for other states in India. The collaboration between the Board and the Department of e-Governance highlights the government’s commitment to recognizing and formalizing the contributions of gig workers in the economy, which has seen substantial growth in recent years. The effectiveness and impact of this mechanism will be closely monitored, as it represents a significant step toward improving conditions for gig workers across the country.
