Telangana Requests Central Government to Add Maize and Jowar to Price Support Scheme

Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has called on Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to increase the procurement quota for sunflower and to establish a clear policy regarding hybrid (HT) cotton production.

Minister Rao emphasized the importance of supporting sunflower farmers, noting that an enhanced procurement quota could help stabilize prices and encourage higher production levels. The call for a clear policy on HT cotton also addresses the need for guidelines that could enhance sustainable agricultural practices and improve the livelihoods of cotton farmers.

Sunflower is an important crop in India, known for its oil production, and increasing its procurement can have significant implications for both farmers and the agricultural economy. Meanwhile, hybrid cotton varieties have been touted for their potential to boost yields, but they also raise questions regarding environmental sustainability and crop diversity.

Minister Raos appeal comes amid ongoing discussions about agricultural policies aimed at supporting farmers and enhancing food security in the country.
