Government to Launch 100 Ethanol Fuel Stations in Delhi-NCR and Maharashtra, Says Hardeep Singh Puri
The Minister emphasized the potential economic and environmental benefits of increasing the adoption of flex-fuel vehicles in India. According to his statements, if 50% of new two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles sold in the country were compliant with flex-fuel technology, it could generate an additional demand for 311.8 crore liters of ethanol. This shift would not only support Indias energy diversification strategy but could also lead to an estimated increase in income of ₹12,403 crore for farmers, aligning with the governments objectives of promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Flex-fuel vehicles are designed to operate on multiple types of fuel, including a higher blend of ethanol, which is produced from crops like sugarcane and corn. With Indias growing focus on renewable energy sources, the adoption of flex-fuel technology could play a significant role in boosting local agriculture while contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The governments push for this initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance energy security and promote sustainable development in the transport sector.
