Indias Engineering Exports Rise to $13.77 Billion, Niti Aayog Advocates for Regulation
Indias engineering services exports have experienced substantial growth over the past decade, achieving a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.8 percent. This remarkable expansion reflects the increasing global demand for Indian engineering expertise, particularly in sectors such as construction, infrastructure, and technology.
However, the sector is currently facing challenges due to the absence of a comprehensive regulatory framework. To address this issue, the Niti Aayog—a policy think tank of the Indian government—has put forward a proposal to establish a central statutory framework tailored to the needs of construction and infrastructure engineers. This initiative also seeks to recognize architects and engineers as allied professionals, which would enhance their professional standing and streamline regulatory processes.
The proposed framework aims to create a more structured environment for engineering services, potentially leading to improved quality standards, enhanced accountability, and greater investment in the sector. As India aims to strengthen its position in the global engineering market, the successful implementation of this framework could be crucial in addressing current gaps and facilitating further growth in exports.
